Thinking, Thinking makes us humans and I have learnt today that there are two types of thinking

  • Vertical Thinking
  • Lateral Thinking

Vertical Thinking

This is conventional thinking, where you get deeper into a particular concept, and you start brainstorming in and around that concept. In this case you are thinking in a particular way leading to minimum or no new ideas.

Lateral Thinking

This is a type of thinking, where you need to look for alternatives, find new patterns and update the old products, leverage the concepts of one industry into others. This type of thinking enables you to think in different angles, with WHAT IF scenario’s, it’s like looking at the same problem in a different angle.

E.g. In case of Aero plane, WHAT IF the plane fails in the middle of the flight, and this type of thinking led to invention of parachute. So, when you think in different problems and consider WHAT IF scenario’s you would be able to looks the problem in a completely new angle.

Develop both vertical and lateral thinking ability, so once you get an idea from lateral thinking, then you can dig deeper using vertical thinking, which would open doors to new world.

Be open-minded and welcome ideas. No idea is a bad idea and sometimes from these bad ideas we would get some great ideas which have never been implemented.

So, whenever you hear some idea from someone, instead of saying NO to an idea, just say PO, which would open door to new possibilities and also encourages others to give better ideas.

Thats All for Today!!. :)
